FREE to anyone who lives, works or studies in North Ayrshire.

Where and When

We have 17 libraries, 2 mobiles and a home library service. You can join online and pop in to a library with 2 piece of ID. Check out the Council webpages for full information.

As long as you bring books back on time or you renew them using the library app, online or by phone we don’t charge you anything. There are small charges for borrowing DVDs and CDs.

These are our library opening hours.

Any where, any time Library

You can use the library even if you don’t actually visit by

  • downloading our ebooks provided by OverDrive,
  • digital magazines provided by Zinio
  • Downloading or streaming from the Sony music collection provided by Freegal
  • Listening to audiobooks provided by OneClickdigital
  • Or using our online reference books

If there’s something you want to read you can check out if we have it in stock using the library app or library online catalogue and we can get it delivered to your local library (no charge for this either).

DigiDabble is an award-winning family learning initiative developed by North Ayrshire libraries which pop-up in local libraries. With a variety of digital learning tools, including robots, coding, digital animation, 3D printing, gaming and virtual reality, it’s a great way to discover what’s new. And DigiDabble events are FREE! Check out the events calendar – we love a Saturday dabbling with our digital toys!

Computers,  Wi-Fi, Community Rooms and Employability Hubs

If you want to use one of the library computers this is also free and you can book a time. We have free wi-fi in 12 libraries and we’re working on making wi-fi available in all our libraries. We also have Community Rooms for hire at Ardrossan, Kilwinning, Largs and Saltcoats. There are two new Employability Hubs at Stevenston and Kilbirnie libraries, as well as Job Clubs at Dalry and Irvine Libraries – ask for more information at the library.

We love them! You’re never too young to join the library. We’ve got books, music, Bookbug, book groups, homework clubs, access to Glow, events and activities especially for you (and your grown-ups).

We run hundreds of events so check out the events calendar to see what’s on or pop in to see us – we love visitors!

Volunteers welcome

Finally we love a volunteer, so if you want to help with activities, events, computer buddying or adding to our local heritage, please get in touch through your local library.

See you soon!
