The Local Development Plan (LDP) is a land use document that indicates where certain types of development should, and should not, happen. It sets out a long term vision for growth, identifying land and infrastructure to deliver new homes and for businesses to locate and expand. It provides the policy framework for determining planning applications

 North Ayrshire Council are progressing work for a new Local Development Plan (LDP2) for North Ayrshire, which is intended to be adopted in 2019.

This consultation will commence on 30 April. All background documents will be available from that date at https://www.north-ayrshire.gov.uk/planning-and-building-standards/ldp/ldp2.aspx. The consultation will close on 29 June 2018.

Commenting on the Proposed LDP

During the consultation period you can submit your comments to us relating to any part of the Proposed LDP. We have a form (available in word and pdf formats) to assist you making comments to the Proposed LDP, and a guidance note on how to comment on the Proposed LDP. Comments can be submitted using our SurveyMonkey or by emailing ldp@north-ayrshire.gov.uk. We will also accept handwritten comments from members of the public.

How we will handle your comment

Please note that in order to consider your comments as a competent representation, you need to include in your representation your name and address to meet development plan regulations. It is likely we will have to summarise your comments and submit a summary, as well as a copy of your original representation, to the Scottish Government. The Scottish Government will determine whether the LDP should be changed as a result of your representation, and may need to contact you in this regard. In any case, we will contact you when the Scottish Government has concluded its assessment of the LDP and advise you of the outcome. It is expected that the LDP will be adopted by early summer 2019.

CONSULTATION UPDATE

Following the close of the consultation on Local Development Plan 2 in June 2018, representations seeking a change to the proposed local development plan were considered at an examination undertaken by the Scottish Ministers.

On 10 July 2019, Scottish Ministers issued their examination report on the Proposed Local Development Plan, which set out conclusions on these. It also recommended a series of modifications.

On 17 September 2019, North Ayrshire Council’s Local Development Plan Committee approved modifications to the Proposed Local Development Plan and agreed to submission of the modified Plan to Scottish Ministers for adoption.

The Proposed Local Development Plan has been modified in line with the recommendations made by Scottish Ministers. The Local Development Plan was adopted by North Ayrshire Council on 28 November 2019.
